When I was a child my Mother lived for those occasions where she could pull out “the good dishes”. She had 3 sets of china: one that had belonged to her Mother, one that had been gifted to her from her Mother-In-Law and the china she registered for when she got married. Creating holiday tablescapes was a pleasurable chore for her around the holidays. The only downside is that I seemed to always get the task of hand-washing all those dishes after the meal since apparently “good dishes” can’t go into a dishwasher. Flash forward a couple of decades and life is a bit more informal. It’s not that I never use good china, but I’m much more apt to create beautiful tablescapes for baby showers, luncheons, dinner parties and the lot using great monogrammed melamine plates, platters and bowls from our collection. They are colorful, beautiful, personalized AND they don’t break if dropped on the floor AND can go in the dishwasher. I like things that make everybody happy.
